I recently released a few of my original songs on SoundCloud. They're songs that have been hidden in notebooks, poetry and thoughts waiting for guitar chords to sweep them into music, and just waiting for the right moment to be shared. That moment came the other day on a whim, while I was sitting on my bedroom floor. It was time to let the words out of the journals and out of the recordings and share them.
Each of the songs I released has come from a collection of stories and moments in my mind, things that happened and feelings I felt that I felt needed music behind them. I thought since I did step one and shared the songs with you guys, that I would do step two and share my stories. The little bits and pieces, feelings and emotions that created these songs.
Safe Here is my favorite song I've written. It was stitched together on the cabin floor at my summer camp, as I was reflecting what God had been doing in my heart at that holy place and in my life outside of camp. The song sifts through my journey of coming to know God and getting to live an abundant life in my faith, as well as talking about my home in God. One of the dearest parts of the song for me is the bridge, about God turning my struggle with depression into joy and song, and how my life was fully changed by my faith.
Butterflies was my first written song. It's about that feeling you get when you're so caught up and fluttery that you're just doused in butterflies. The smiles and dancing around your room type of crush. I had caught a case of butterflies after meeting someone new, and I decided to form that sweet feeling it into words, and those simple words turned into my first original.
Jupiter started as a poem. It was a jumble of feelings and thoughts, which is obvious in the lyrics. I wrote it about someone who appeared so intricate at first that there are no easy words to put them in. So as I tried to put him into words, the words turned into small fragments of feelings I had for him and thoughts about him. Mystery and warmth and beauty...
The lyrics of Darling encompass the type of relationships I dream about. Long drifting dirt road conversations and drives to natural beauty. Quiet morning wake ups and sipping coffee together. Living off coins & kisses, enjoying the little things. Just waiting for the next adventure together, not tied up in world's standards or ideas of real life. Dreams and adventures, and you & me, put simply.
Daughter of the King
This was my second worship song that I decided to record. I wrote it as the Maker talking to His daughter, at a time when I felt these words being spoken over me. This song is a sweet one that wraps us up in God's love and reminds us that we are dearly loved, beautifully sculpted, and that we are God's child.
Now that you've read the stories, go check out my songs on Soundcloud- the link is in my about me page, and is also added below. I hope you like them! :)
