Prayer is an absolutely beautiful part of faith. It's a chance to literally talk with an incredible Creator in a close, real way. Praying is a giant part of my spirituality. I pray when a lot because it's a chance to speak with Love, and it leads to deeper connections and reminds me that I have a place if refuge. There are a lot of amazing things I could say about prayer, but here's what I want to share with you about praying:
1. Prayer isn't just sitting with your hands folded in a place of worship.
God invites us to pray throughout our daily lives- keep in mind that prayer doesn't have to be some formal ordeal, and it doesn't have to look the same as other people's prayers. The thoughts you send to God mentally are heard whether you're meditating or just pondering something. The prayers and ideas you write out are seen and the prayers you whisper or the words you yell out are all heard. And this being said, whatever you're doing and wherever you are, God invites you to pray.
2. Every single prayer is listened to.
God will listen to everything on your heart and receive each prayer. No matter how ugly you think it is, or how stupid you think it is to pray about, the Lord is celebrating each word, because it is all beautiful to God and God wants to love you and help you. So don't hold back when praying, say it all, because everything will be heard and it will receive love.
3. God wants us to pray.
God doesn't hold back from us. God does the opposite, wanting to help us and give us the desires of our heart, and prayer is a beautiful way for us to communicate these desires and dreams, worries and struggles, joys and celebrations. Prayer is conversation with God, God wants to have conversation with us- relationships are kept alive by communication, and this is true for our relationship with God too.
4. Prayer changes things.
Praying has so much impact. God can answer prayers in really cool ways, and can also direct our hearts in new directions and to new heights based on our prayer. God can teach us so many things through prayer, and we can learn to really tune our mind and soul into the Maker's voice. Prayer also heals- it takes weight from our hearts and it makes us feel better about certain situations. It also deepens our relationship with God, and the more we pray, the more our relationship with God grows and changes.
5. Prayer is absolutely beautiful.
Think about it- the Maker of the whole entire universe is listening to the desires of our hearts. Everything we say in prayer to God is received and loved on and directed. God knows us completely and fully, but still wants to speak with us and pray. That alone is absolutely incredible to me.
