We have a home in God. It's a place of absolute joy and love, peace and wholeness, where we are kept safe, but also where we are nudged into bravery and newness. It's a home that we can run to when things are crazy. It gives you cozy, warm, safe feelings, and also makes the spirit of adventure rise up high in your soul.
In scripture, the home we have in God is talked about, specifically why this home we have in God is so important. John 15:4 says,
Live in me. Make your home in me just as I do in you. In the same way that a branch can't bear grapes by itself but only by being joined to the vine, you can't bear fruit unless you are joined with me.
I think John 15:4 is a really cool verse for a lot of reasons. One is that it starts by saying that we live in God, which is a beautiful way to start because it reminds us that the intricate and precious thing that life encompasses happens in God's home. It also brings up the point that we have a home in God, but also that God is in our spirit, having a home in us. Then the verse talks about the fact that making a home in God means we can create new and beautiful things and keep growing and keep living fully, bearing fruit in our daily lives.
Later in John 15:9-10 it says,
Make yourselves at home in my love.
I think this is also really cool because it brings up the all encompassing fact that God's home has a foundation of love. Not a foundation of perfection or fear or confusion or worry- a foundation of complete and overflowing love. And I don't know about you, but that is a home I want to dwell in... and the fact is, it's ours to live in each day. The complete overflow of love, adventure, joy, peace, and freedom- we get to live in that place, every single moment.
